Poincaré presents scientific invention as a process of selection, combination and unconscious preparation rather than the mechanical accumulation of facts. His account of mathematical discovery is iconic because it describes insight as the sudden appearance of a fruitful relation among elements previously assembled below the threshold of conscious attention. Methodologically, the work moves between mathematics, psychology and philosophy to show that scientific method requires judgement about which facts matter and which combinations possess explanatory value. The contribution bridges epistemology and creativity studies by rejecting both pure intuition and rigid formalism. Logic verifies, but invention depends upon aesthetic discrimination, analogy and the capacity to recognise hidden order.
