Wei and colleagues make a methodological intervention of unusual importance: architectural design itself becomes part of experimental construction rather than a passive source of stimulus images. Using curvature as a test case, they expose how conventional neuroaesthetic studies often confuse geometry with photographic style, design quality, cultural association and symbolic reconstruction. Their alternative is a three-phase framework moving from image-based evaluation to object-based interaction and finally full-scale immersive experience, with each phase generated through explicit architectural logic. The conceptual shift is from representation to embodied engagement. Perception and response are treated as coupled processes in which affordance, movement, affect and spatial meaning emerge through encounter, not through detached visual judgement alone. The framework therefore aims to increase ecological validity progressively while retaining experimental comparability. Its wider bridge is to research-through-design and embodied cognition: architectural making becomes an epistemic instrument capable of producing controlled variation without stripping space of the material, scalar and action-oriented properties that make it architecture.
